Customised nozzle technology for improved ship efficiency
The Becker Nozzle is an innovative nozzle solution from Becker Marine Systems that was developed based on the original Kort nozzle concept. It is available in two main variants: the Becker Fixed Nozzle and the Becker Steerable Nozzle. Overall, the Becker Nozzle increases the manoeuvrability and efficiency of vessels, especially in challenging conditions and at slow speeds, making it an essential component for vessels operating in demanding maritime environments. A further benefit is the simplified aft ship arrangement and the freedom for ship designer to locate the propeller to a more beneficial position. This could increase cargo capacity and will contribute to a more efficient and safer vessel design.
Becker Fixed Nozzle
The Becker Fixed Nozzle, typically used in combination with a Becker Flap Rudder, increases the bollard pull performance of vessels such as AHTS (anchor-handling/tug/supply) vessels, tugs and fishing boats. Its profile is carefully optimised to produce exceptional thrust performance for vessels with highly loaded propellers.
Becker Steerable Nozzle
The Becker Steerable Nozzle profile is adapted to ensure similar performance when the nozzle is rotated. It eliminates the need for separate rudders and offers significantly improved manoeuvrability due to its ability to generate stronger lateral forces at all speeds. This solution is especially suitable for vessel operating in Dynamic Positioning (DP) mode.
Advantages of the Becker Nozzle
- Improved Dynamic Positioning performance
- Increased bollard pull
- Simplifies the aft ship arrangement and construction
- Reduced stern thruster power requirement for station keeping
- Compatible with all standard +/-35° steering gears (steerable nozzle only)
The Becker Nozzle is especially suited for
- Offshore and work vessels
- Fishing vessels
- Research vessels
Proven performance for your ship
At Becker Marine Systems we attach great importance to the efficiency and performance of our manoeuvring systems. In a market characterised by strict regulations, our aim is not only to make ships more efficient, but also more sustainable. In order to fulfil these high requirements, we carry out extensive development, testing and measurements of our rudders. CFD simulations and model testing are an integral part of our design process. This allows us to evaluate the performance of our rudder solutions in direct comparison with other manufacturers and ensure that our products meet the highest standards in terms of efficiency and performance.
We are proud that our rudder solutions are regularly selected as the preferred choice for new builds and retrofit projects, underlining our leading position in the field of maritime efficiency technologies.
